How do we get started?

The design process starts with a free in home consultation including an assessment of your grounds. Items that you may wish to accomplish before this meeting include:

  • A family discussion outlining your needs and preferences concerning your pool and/or spa.
(topics you might consider are straight lines, curves, formal, tropical, water features, play areas.)
  • Collect pictures of pool styles that appeal to you.
  • Obtain a survey or plot plan of your property for permit and drawing purposes.

During our meeting we will discuss your options and better refine your ideas. After the initial consultation we will then begin work on a proposed design and estimated cost to be provided in a follow up meeting.

What kind of Pool is right for me?

Your overall lot size can determine the size of pool that is appropriate for you and your family, but in terms of shape and style it depends on how you plan to use your pool. If you desire a backyard oasis that is perfect for entertaining, relaxing and overall enjoyment then a freeform design might suit you best. If exercise is important, then perhaps a pool that facilitates swimming laps or incorporates a swim jet could be appropriate. The options are endless, feel free to browse our gallery for inspiration.

Are all pools created equal?

The short answer is: No. Once all it took to impress your neighbors was a concrete swimming hole with a deep end and a diving board. Today it is more about visual effects, efficiency and technology. Attention to detail, experience, and knowledge is a must to build a quality pool.

Will the style of my home impact the design of my pool and/or spa?

Sometimes the house and yard dictate the shape and size of your swimming pool and/or spa. Your taste in style and appearance is the most important aspect. When is the best time of year to build a new pool?

Actually the period between November through February is ideal to start planning and building your pool. As an added bonus, planning to build a new pool during these months can ensure that your backyard oasis will be ready to use the first warm days of Spring. Many people choose to wait until Spring/Summer to build their pools and thus it might take longer as demands increase.

How long does it take to build a swimming pool?

Usually it will take four to six weeks from excavation to completion of the pool. If you have a special timetable we will be happy to work with you, just let us know.

Can my old pool be renovated to look completely different?

Absolutely! We have renovated and remodeled many existing pools for those who want the newest look. Water features are easily added to most existing pools. Specialty plasters and decking can dramatically enhance the look. With engineering even a spa can be added or the shape of your pool altered.

How much will a pool cost?

A luxury car can easily cost twice as much as a base pool. Or a year of pool payments can cost less than what a family of four would spend on a one week vacation. Keep in mind the pool will be there for your enjoyment 365 days a year when the vacation is just a memory. We build pools costing from the mid- $30,000 and up. It is hard to pin point an exact price as there are so many possibilities. Our commitment at Wind River Pools is to provide you with a quality waterscape at an affordable price, without compromises.

Do you offer financing? What are my payment options?

We currently work with select local lenders who can assist you with your financing needs.

What does it cost to heat a pool and how long will it take to heat my pool or spa?

There are many variables in answering this question but normally you can heat a pool on special occasions for less than a tank of gas. When the heater is sized correctly, you should allow for a 1 degree rise per hour for a pool and a 1 degree rise per minute for a spa. Example: With a 400,000 BTU heater based on CenterPoint's current rate of $1.01 per CCF (Aug. 2013 rate) the cost would be $4.02 per continuous running hour. Needless to say, once ideal temperature is obtained, the heater would come on only intermittently so your cost would be much less.

Can I use my pool area year round?

Of course! As a pool owner myself, I know that a pool can be used and enjoyed well beyond the "pool season". Warm weather here in Houston Texas can last all the way through October into November (and maybe even until Christmas) and often be back as early as February. Naturally, adding a heater to your pool package can guarantee year round enjoyment. Regardless whether it's spring, summer, fall or winter, a beautiful pool area can create an inviting backdrop for hosting parties for family and friends.
